CHS Alumni Newsletter #2
October 2, 2005
Well, it was nice to see that a lot of people actually did read the first newsletter - catching my errors!
But really it was nice and all the people who sent letters correcting me did it in such a nice way.
The following is the correct information as written by Mary Buda:
The building opened in the fall of 69 - after having spent a year at Franklin.
The class of '71 was the first graduating class - remember our high schools did not include 9th grade at that time.
The class of '72 would be the first class to have spent three years in the CHS building.
I know that we had some 9th graders in one of those three years - as Ford had not opened and they needed some place to put those kids.
I know I am right about those early years because of the fact that the CHS faculty was at Franklin
during my first year of teaching - 68/69.
Hopefully this will get the story right.
As I said before, what I really appreciated was getting all the feedback, hearing from everyone who read the newsletter.
So please continue to send in information on events you may know of or interesting things that happen in your daily life.
Did you open a business? Or just have a baby? We want to pass on all this information.
Gayle and I happened to stop at a Charity Car wash at Wayne Rd and Ann Arbor Trail. The van needed a wash and helping a charity is a great thing to do. One of the people washing was wearing a Churchill T-shirt. As I am never shy in asking questions I found out that the group was the Bible Group from Churchill High School. It is nice to see our next generation helping out with the recent disasters. I had asked that they contact us with how much they raised but I am sure they forgot the e-mail address after having such a great day of fun and fund-raising.
Homecoming is not far away.
From what I can figure out on the Churchill website, Homecoming is October 7th.
If anyone is interested in getting together at the game and then possibly going someplace afterwards please let me know
and I will try and figure out a way for everyone to meet.
Email me at Chris@ChurchillAlumni.com.
It would be nice if we could get a large turnout and all sit in one area.
Gayle has been pretty busy with the website. The directory is on the way to 500 people listed.
Considering we only started the directory a year and a half ago that is pretty good, but a long way from complete.
I also want to ask Alumni who own businesses to submit their info for a free link to their business site.
If you know an Alumni who owns a business please pass this info on to them.
We are also posting family pictures on the ChurchillAlumni.com website.
Please check out the pictures there and send in some of your own.
We missed “Uncle Jack” Trudgeon at the Summer Bash this year.
I just talked to him on the phone and with his busy retirement he just wasn’t able to make it to this year’s Bash.
He had friends visiting from England. Then on his summer tour he visited his family in Texas.
While there he was helping remove a treehouse and fell and broke his shoulder.
He is now home in Arizona healing and relaxing with his wife Helen.
When I retire I want to have the energy to climb into a treehouse - hopefully not fall out of it.
It is so nice to hear his voice and that of his wonderful wife Helen.

Churchill Events and Reunions
Mark your calendar for a party!
Churchill '74 graduates turn 50 in 2006, so we have decided to put on an event to bring the class together again.
The event is Saturday, July 22nd, 2006, 6:00pm - 12:30 a.m at Hawthorne Valley Country Club in Westland.
The evening will consist of a sit down dinner, a professional DJ and a cake. There will be a cash bar.
No dress code! Dress up, or dress down. It's YOUR party. The cost is $35.00 per person.
We will be mailing out the invitations in late spring/early summer. Space is limited at the banquet hall.
We recommend you respond promptly if you want to attend. We will be using our mailing list from the 30 year reunion.
If we did not collect your mailing address, or if your address has changed, contact the "74 Geezer Committee:"
Let's all get together and celebrate our half century of life.... AND our AARP cards!
If you would like to send us something for the next newsletter, please e-mail
Chris@ChurchillAlumni.com.
‘Till next time! Keep those cards and letters coming!
Sincerely,
Chris Nicholson
