CHS Alumni Newsletter #3
November 7, 2005
Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
We are finally announcing the date for the 3rd Annual Churchill Alumni Summer Bash.
After waiting in a loooong line at Nankin Mills, we have the date!
Saturday, June 17th, 2006
So make all your vacation plans around us! We really do enjoy seeing everyone.
Bring the kids, the grandkids - even the spouses are welcome.
We promise not to tell them about all the high school secrets, like making out in the smoking lounge
(of course, that was only available for a short time).
To get all the updated information on the Summer Bash, check out the website at
www.ChurchillAlumni.com
Our location is staying the same at 6 mile and Northville road, and the event is all day.
We have the baseball diamond as well and would love to get some teams organized.
Maybe the class of the 90’s might like to challenge the class of the 70’s?

The 2nd Annual Bash Pictures are now up in the Photo Album.
Please help us out with any names that we missed.
We have so much fun at the Bash that we are sometimes forgetful in getting details looked after.

Tom Piluras (class of 72) has let us know that they are planning the 35ish reunion -
the “ish” coming from the fact that they are inviting other classes to attend as well.
They had such a good turn out at the 30ish reunion inviting the 71, 72 and 73 alumni that they are doing it again.
Now, the highlight of the last one was me asking Gayle to marry me on the dance floor,
so we will be looking for someone to add some spice to the next one. Stay tuned for upcoming details.

Gayle and I joined the Churchill Athletic Patrons (CAP) at Mason’s Lounge October 21st.
They are a great group of parents with future Alumni at the school now.
They wanted us to help promote the Buy a Brick program.
Check it our on the alumni website or at the Churchill Website.
Also be aware that they take orders until they have enough to purchase the bricks at a profit,
so if your brick is not installed the first month don’t get upset.
We are also asking for some help in sponsoring their Golf outing, which is scheduled for June 12, 2006.
Please send in donations to Don Nicholson * P.O. Box 1014 * Garden City * MI * 48136.
Please make checks payable to Churchill Athletic Patrons. This is also a tax deduction.
Any amount is greatly appreciated, $5, $10, $20 or more.
Last year we raised enough to sponsor a hole for the event.

The Homecoming Game was a nice evening.
Unfortunately we didn’t win the game.
Gayle and I met up with Robin Anderson (73) and Debbie Kropic (73).
I had a great time being the only male to show up.
Next year we need to get a little better organized so we are easily recognized.
Also, if you know of a restaurant that is Alumni owned in the area we would love to support them when we have our gatherings.
Please let us know.

Unfortunately, there is some bad news for Alumni who grew up in the Nankin Elementary area.
Nankin Mills Elementary will be closing the doors at the end of this school year.
I have it on good authority that there are plans on an open house type of event for all those who walked the halls way back when.
My sister happens to be the PTO president there now so we will be well informed as the news is announced.

A message from Debbie Smith, Class of 1974:
Hi All:
As most of you know my beloved Daughter Jaime passed away 1 year ago this November 11th.
It was suggested to me that I have a get together on that day as I have been more than overwhelmed about that day approaching.
So here goes...

I need to laugh and have fun on that day :) If anyone doesn't have any plans please stop by.
I will be having a 50/50 drawing to raise money for the Michigan MS Society.
Love to all,
Debbie

The Livonia Civic Chorus is having their Christmas Concert on stage at Churchill High School this year.
The event will be December 18th at 3:00pm.
Gayle Napolitano Nicholson (73) will be singing there just like she did just over 30 years ago.
They really do put on a great show, come out and join in for some Holiday cheer.
For more info check out their website at www.livoniacivicchorus.org

We would also like to thank all of the people who supported Gayle, Dodger and I in the Michigan Humane Society Mutt March.
As usual it was a great success.

If you happen to own a business and would like to sponsor a great event, I would love to talk to you.
I host the Don Nicholson Charity Car show each year.
The show is a benefit show for the Western Wayne Skill Center.
All profits go towards job training and teaching life skills to the mentally and physically challenged.
The Western Wayne Skill Center is located on Ann Arbor Trail West of Merriman - the old Henry Ford Jr. High.
If you would like to see what has been done in the past and see all the other sponsors that we work with please check out the car show section of my website at
www.DonNicholson.net
Mark your calendar for a party!
Churchill '74 graduates turn 50 in 2006, so we have decided to put on an event to bring the class together again.
The event is Saturday, July 22nd, 2006, 6:00pm - 12:30 a.m at Hawthorne Valley Country Club in Westland.
The evening will consist of a sit down dinner, a professional DJ and a cake.
There will be a cash bar. No dress code! Dress up, or dress down. It's YOUR party. The cost is $35.00 per person.
They will be mailing out the invitations in late spring/early summer.
Space is limited at the banquet hall. We recommend you respond promptly if you want to attend.
They will be using the mailing list from their 30 year reunion.
If they did not collect your mailing address, or if your address has changed, contact the "74 Geezer Committee."
