CHS Alumni Newsletter #5
March 13, 2006

Spring is coming soon and the Bash is right around the corner.

June 17th 2006 is not far off. Please mark your calendar. Remember this is a fun family day. Bring the kids and the parents. You can plan on spending an hour or the whole day. Early birds can join Gayle, Denise, Don Reed and myself for Breakfast.

We are doing what we can to get the news out. Please feel free to print out flyers from the website at www.ChurchillAlumni.com and post them anywhere you can. If you happen to know of a cable company or TV, radio listing we are not on, please forward the info to me. Or feel free to post I there yourself.

We are trying to do a couple different things this year. One is to have an auction. Tom “Buzz” Buzzell (Class of 71) did a great job auctioning off a Churchill sweater last year. So we have asked him to help us out again this year. So if you have anything to donate to the cause please let me know what you have for the auction and we will add it to the list.

We also are thinking of a Bake Sale. We are looking for people who would like to contribute, as well as someone to run the bake sale – preferably several people so no one is sitting there for the whole day. Please let me know if you can help out in any way.

One of the ways that we are working with Churchill is to support the Golf outing for the Churchill Athletic Patrons. Last year, thanks to contributions from numerous alumni, we sponsored one of the holes. If you could help us out please send any donations to Don Nicholson * P.O. Box 1014 * Garden City* MI * 48136. Please make all checks or money orders payable to Churchill Athletic Patrons. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Information on the event can be found here.

Nankin Mills Elementary will be holding an open house for anyone who went there before they close the doors for the final school year. I will let everyone know the date as soon as we have it.

We also have another famous person in our Alumni. If you happen to like Sci-Fi reading check out the new book by Shaun Kelsey - otherwise known as Doug Roberts class of 72. His website is www.freewebs.com/shaunkelsey. The name of his book is “Endangered.” You can contact Doug thru the directory.

Kelly Brown, Churchill Class of 1982, is now a radio personality at WRIF. Perhaps we could get Kelly and all her on air Alumni followers to join us at the Bash.

As I always like to post about Alumni in the news and Alumni being involved in the Community. I would like to tell a few things that I have recently been asked to be involved in. I was named the Capital Fundraising Chairperson for the Historic Wayne Theater today. The Historic Wayne Theatre is one of the oldest Theatres in Michigan. My vision is to have the Theatre rebuilt and operating by March 31, 2007, and hosting a grand opening by the middle of April or May 2007. Take a look at what we have so far and if you have anything to contribute we would be happy for any help. The website is www.HistoricWayneTheatre.com.

I was also named the Car Show Chairperson for the Annual Art on the Avenue Car Show in Dearborn. This show is by invitation only. It will also be promoted as a preview to the Don Nicholson’s Charity Car Show which will be at the Western Wayne Skill Center June 26, 2006>

If you happen to own a business and would like to sponsor a great event, I would love to talk to you. I host the Don Nicholson Charity Car show each year. The show is a benefit show for the Western Wayne Skill Center. All profits go towards job training and teaching life skills to the mentally and physically challenged. The Western Wayne Skill Center is located on Ann Arbor Trail West of Merriman - the old Henry Ford Jr. High. If you would like to see what has been done in the past and see all the other sponsors that we work with please check out the car show section of my website at www.DonNicholson.net

Mark your calendar for a party!

Churchill '74 graduates turn 50 in 2006, so we have decided to put on an event to bring the class together again. The event is Saturday, July 22nd, 2006, 6:00pm - 12:30 a.m at Hawthorne Valley Country Club in Westland. The evening will consist of a sit down dinner, a professional DJ and a cake. There will be a cash bar. No dress code! Dress up, or dress down. It's YOUR party. The cost is $35.00 per person. They will be mailing out the invitations in late spring/early summer. Space is limited at the banquet hall. We recommend you respond promptly if you want to attend. They will be using the mailing list from their 30 year reunion. If they did not collect your mailing address, or if your address has changed, contact the "74 Geezer Committee."
